It was war (twat-wa) ! In case you haven't heard… Jimmy Kimmel (of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!) had declared Twitter War on us (actually it was more like a sneak attack). He was not happy that we had 4,000 more followers than he did, so he publicly declared (on Twitter and on his show) that he was officially at Twitter War with us.
And… here is the video of him announcing his Twitter war with us on his show:
Now, why he chose us to go to war with isn't clear… and truthfully that's OK; it's great PR and we didn't back down from his challenge. We spent a couple of days (and nights) tweeting with our followers and his as well. The amount of people that now know who we are, compared to before Jimmy started this war, has skyrocketed. So bring it on Jimmy!
So, how do you get noticed online (and offline too)?
Yes, getting noticed online often leads to offline publicity as well. People telling their friends about you, meeting people in person that you've connected with online (our favorite), and sometimes a mention and your picture on TV…
Here's a quick video of Jimmy on his show, updating his audience on the status of his Twitter War with us:
So… how to get noticed online:
First, you have to get out there. Put up a blog, get on Facebook and Twitter. It doesn't have to be perfect, you'll have lots of time to tweak it later.
Second, create a brand for yourself and then create everything you do around that brand. Your brand can help you stand out from the crowd and have more staying power in people's minds.
Third, it's a great idea to join a tribe or become a part of a community. The people in your tribe will be instrumental in getting your name out there, increasing your exposure on the social media sites and the reach of your content.
So get out there, create something that's yours and get the help and support of tribe behind you. You'll be surprised how far you can go.
We didn't think we'd actually win the war, considering Jimmy has the network TV show to get his message out to the world. And although we didn't win, we'd like to thank Jimmy Kimmel for helping us get a little farther. It's been a COOL ride, and Jimmy's a pretty COOL guy for a “comedian”!

P.S. Watch out Jimmy, the “Pat and Lorna Live!” show is coming soon to a network near you!
P.S.S. Or maybe Jimmy you want us to appear live on your show first!
