I like the analogy of social media being like a driver’s license. It is important to get to know the rules of social media. Each site has its own nuances, much like driving in Australia is different than North America or Europe.

You two have taught me so much about social media, from your encouragement when I first got on Twitter, to the latest WordPress plugins and neat ways to do videos. Thanks for the great work you do, and even better, for sharing it with us!

      Jacqueline,

We have also learned very much from you about putting ourselves out there and teaching what we do best. One of those being Managing Social Media, Information and Knowledge. Thank you for your encouragement and for seeing what we do well.

I guess this shows the power of the Tribes and friendships, as they see what you are good at, before you do.

      Thanks,

This is such a great comparison! It puts a lot into perspective and allows us to appreciate our “training wheels” knowing that social media is a learning process. Since it is continuously changing, sometimes we’ll be the driver coaching others and sometimes we will be the person with the learner’s permit being guided. Thanks!

      Kelly,

That is so true about the different roles we take in social media… the coach and the learner. We just have to remember that it’s ok not to know it all and that others are willing to help… especially inside a close-knit tribe.

      Thanks so much,

This so exactly describes the process that I’ve been going through in learning how to use social media tools. Just like the beginning driver, I’ve been concentrating so hard on mastering the technology, that I’m only now beginning to see the big picture and to enjoy the people and the relationships – the true benefits of “getting my license to drive” social media. This is a wonderful article that I’d like to share with people who have suddenly found that they need to reinvent their work and their income. Thanks, Pat and Lorna!

      Louise,

It is quite amazing how much clearer we can see the “big picture” when the small stuff becomes second nature. And there is such a huge amount of guidance and support out there when we are just learners… especially inside a tribe. Thank you for sharing!

      Thanks so much,
