    Hi Pat and Lorna!

I just LOVE Twitter! Maybe it is because it is the first social media platform that I ever used, or maybe it is because it just rocks! Thanks for all the terrific tips! I didn’t know the statistic about people remaining as followers at a higher rate than they remain on your list.

I have not been as steady on Twitter as I used to be, but you have inspired me to get back over there to have fun and make money!

    You two are soooo cool!

    Hi Pat-Lorna,

I will certainly have to look into my twitter account and make a plan so that I can use twitter to the fullest.. Never liked Twitter as much as Facebook but I can tell I am losing out a lot of traffic for not paying attention on it…it is a must for me to use Twitter correctly to do my business.

Thank you for the information and I am happy I stopped by !

It’s amazing how in life we get back so much more of what we put out there. If we put out engaging stuff, then people respond and engage with us. Too cool.

Twitter is the very first social media tool I learned how to use. I haven’t used it very much recently, but I still love it. Ease of use and rapid response to tweets is one of my favorite aspects. Pat and Lorna, I love the video on your home page, too.
Take care, and have a great holiday.

    Hey Cool Couple,

The Jimmy Kimmel video was really “cool”.

It should have at least given out your blog address.

Anyway, your post on twitter is right on target and has me now re-examining my decision to drop Twiiter from my marketing scheme. No doubt I made a huge mistake.

    Great blog.

The thing that you have going on there with Jimmy Kimmel is priceless! Lots of great Twitter info here. I know that I don’t take advantage of Twitter nearly enough so it is one area where I will have to focus some of my attention to in the near future!

Hello my coolest friends; thanks so much for sharing these 7 great reasons why to use twitter.

I agree that twitter is definitely a place that; if used correctly can be beneficial to you as a marketer I think 3 of the most powerful reasons you mentioned are that 1 it’s ‘present marketing’ this is huge and really gives you the ability to test different things and get instant results. 2nd in my opinion is the building of your expert status; which I believe so many people are worried about having, so this reason is definitely a great share. And the 3rd that I really see, and I’m so glad that you pointed out is to be helpful. So many marketers are missing this element, and failing with twitter and other social media because they are not adding value and being helpful.

This is an awesome post my friends; thanks again for sharing.

    Hi there Pat and Lorna,
I am not a big Twitter fan, but your post has awakened more of an interest for sure.
I like that “instant” message…that it appeals to people on the move so to speak.

Must look into it with a little more enthusiasm in the future.

Thanks for reminding me about the resources that Twitter offers.

    Best wishes

    Hey Pat, Hey Lorna,
I love the way you emphasize the ‘social mix’ here and reitertate the 80-20 rule. Yes, social media, social networking is first and foremost about exactly that … networking … through interacting and asking the right questions, you get to offer help to the people who want it, and just hang out and have a laugh with everyone else. It’s so important that people understand that it is about people first, business second. Relationships first, business cards second. I think so many people underestimate the power of social media marketing because they just want to wade in ‘boots and all’ and start ‘selling’. What are your thoughts around that?
Great post, thanks for posting 🙂

      Mandy,

We totally agree. Too often we see people who do not develop the relationships, and figure that since there are so many people on the social media sites they’ll be able to make a ton of money just by selling to them. But that’s not what it’s about. People will buy from people they know, like and trust; and they won’t put a lot of trust in someone who’s in it just for the sales.

Also, we think it’s a shame on how many amazing relationships these “salespeople” miss out on by pushing their wares from the get-go.

      Thanks so much!

    Hi Pat and Lorna,
I think that Twitter is another place where you can waste a lot of time if you don’t know how to use it for marketing. Many people expect to just tweet some random things thinking they will get leads to their business.
But, as John Maxwell said in that quotation, interacting with people and offering your help is really what Twitter is all about. I see many Twitter accounts whose owners just auto-tweet hundreds of things per hour… I totally disagree with that kind of stuff.
Thanks for the great article, it has been a pleasure reading it,
    George

Thanks for the great tips on Twitter. I believe a balance between automating and actively engaging is the best way to go with Twitter. And it’s primarily about connecting with others and promoting them ahead of ourselves. When we do this at a ratio of 12 (them) to 1 (us), it will result in a lot of value for both parties, as per guru Chris Brogan.

    Hi Pat and Lorna,

Thank you for this article. I’m new to twitter and quite honestly I didn’t get it at first. When a started to get followers, there seemed to be a lot of ‘mini-posts” that didn’t make sense. After awhile, it started to come together and I realized there is legitimate tweeting and spammy tweeting. Some people use tricks to push hundreds of ads through and I cannot see the sense in how that is going to do anything for their business.

Your tweet site is great and clean and it has really good pointers to good content. Since the two of you are “experts” in social media, you were one of the first I added to follow, even though I didn’t know what I was doing and I use your site as a model of how Twitter is properly used to enhance the “social” in our marketing. Good stuff!

Every point that you make about Twitter is right on point! Twitter is a highly effective and useful tool, and now with Google’s new algorithum “Panda”, it is so extrememly important to gain search ranking. Social media now plays a very important role in ranking. If you have a valid and insightful account it will also give you authority, which is so important to credibility with you website.
